A bit about me .....and Simply BE

Simply BE  is a collection of inspirational thoughts, sayings and quotations. This book is a reminder of the importance of striving to be who we really are. It’s all about choice, and knowing that who we really are is a good thing to be,

I wanted to illustrate this book although I am not a visual artist. The most important thing I hope to illustrate is that we don’t have to be perfect. We do the best we can with what we have and give thanks.

It is my hope that Simply BE will encourage you to step up and be all that you know you can be.

This is what I am trying to do.. or what I am trying to be.  I am trying to be authentic; to be who I am ..  the good, the bad, and the ugly.  Perhaps I should say this is what I am being; not what I am trying to be.  I have a feeling that if I say I am trying to be authentic, God will say, 'Okay, I will allow you to try.'

In that case I could be trying forever therefore I must state, "I am being authentic".

Authenticity is the reason that I have, months ago, begun writing my memoir.  Its working title is All Them Houses.    I hope to have it completed by the end of 2016 but so far I am up to only 1977 so I have a long way to go .... and, of course, life continues day by day so there is always more to remember and more to write about.   I'm thinking of changing the title to Now and Then in order to allow myself to slip back and forth in time as I write.   I did something like this when writing one of my books,  Ellen and The Hummingtree
I don't pretend to be the greatest writer in the world.  I also don't think I'm the worst.  I think my books are reasonably well-written and I believe I've written  stories that a reader will enjoy reading.  I know I enjoy writing them.  And I've written several now.  I lose count but I think there are  eighteen plus many short stories that, like Daniel, dare to stand alone in Amazon.  I know my stories don't please everyone but that's okay because I know that they do please many.  With my writing, and with my life, I am not in any competition.  Sometimes I do enter writing competitions but, apart from these events, I am not in any competition.
I am doing my best to Simply BE.

I've written many short stories.  Some of them are in anthologies and some, as I've already mentioned, dare to stand alone.   I have created four short story anthologies now, I think, or is it five?  I truly do lose count.   One critic reminded me, and the world, that a prolific writer is not necessarily a good writer.  The critic is correct.  But it is also true that a prolific writer is not necessarily a bad writer.   A reader's liking of  a story is very subjective.  It's like looking at a piece of visual art or watching a movie.  One person may love it while another will hate it.   What is important, in my opinion, is that the artist and the movie-maker expressed themselves.  They were creative.  They didn't spend their time criticizing the work of others.  They got out there and did their own thing.  That's also what I'm doing -- my own thing.   Most of my short stories focus on social issues because I draw on my background as psychospiritual practitioner, now retired, although I sometimes try to keep my hand in by offering occasional workshops for women.

Some of my short story anthologies.

I also like to write poetry.  I've had some poems published by White Mountain Publishing Company and some published by the Ontario Poetry Society.   This encouraged me to put together a poetry book titled Poetry from A to Z.

In addition to writing stories, whether they be short stories, novellas, or novels,  I've also written a couple of plays.  One of them titled Chocolate Cookies, is a one act play.  It was presented a few years past by Elliot Lake's local theatre group, ELATE.     My second play is titled On The Radio.  It is a three act play and, so far, it is not published.

And I have also written some lyrics to songs.  One of them is titled I Followed My Heart To 108.  The melody was created by the lovely talented Kim Arnold who recorded this song.  She included it in her Nashville album which made me feel very proud.

Another song is titled Listen To Love.  I wrote the lyrics to this song and the lovely music was composed by the most talented Johnny Tyger who sings this song beautifully.

The third song I've written, I feel good about.   I wrote the lyrics some time ago as a tribute to my father who died at a too early age.   For this song I also wrote the melody.  John Cal (Johnny Tyger) took my simple melody and turned it into a lovely music composition.  I don't pretend to be a singer, but I did sing this song and it was recorded.    Now it is a part of who I am.

Most recently I have taken an interest in a new hobby which is painting.  I've created a couple of oil paintings now.  Yes, I've copied them from pictures but I'm ready to take the next step now and I plan to create my first original piece of visual art.    Here is my most recent painting.

Most of us want to express ourselves.  Most of us want to be heard.
Most of us want to be appreciated --  appreciated for who we are.

And this is why I created the book Simply BE
This is a book I created.  It's not a story .. it's a collection of thoughts and sayings; some original and some borrowed.  I'm not an illustrator but, yes, I did illustrate this book.
I hope to do a better job  illustrating the next time I make the attempt.
But my point is, I did illustrate the book.

By doing so I hoped that I would encourage whoever may pick up and read the book to get out there on a limb, to borrow a line from Shirley MacLean;  to take a risk; to not worry about criticism; but, instead, to celebrate your gifts,  however big or small you may consider them to be.  We are not perfect.  No one is.  We do not strive to be perfect.  We strive to be authentic; to be who we truly are.  In putting this book together I wanted to encourage myself, and all who read my books, to celebrate -- to celebrate life, to celebrate our authentic selves, and to

Keeping It Simple - free in the Kindle Store, Sunday, June 19th

Keeping It Simple is free for your reading pleasure and enlightenment on Sunday, June 19th.

A note from the author:

As a Psychospiritual Therapist and co-owner of Creative Connections Centre in Caledon East, it was my privilege and pleasure, in addition to carrying on a private counseling practice, to facilitate meditation and other personal growth classes in our “One Room Schoolhouse”.

It was not uncommon for an interested student to attend his first introductory meditation class with no prior knowledge of meditation or of the chakra system. For this reason I found it beneficial and in the highest interest of all concerned to keep it simple.

Simplicity in meditation, as in life, is an admirable goal. My students and I recognized as classes proceeded that it was not always easy to be simple. Life, with its myriad of challenges, has a habit of doing its best to get in the way. Nevertheless we kept our focus on this goal and felt grateful when it was achieved.

By special request of some of our Centre’s students I put together some rough notes and this teaching material was utilized in class.

Since offering the Meditation Circles at Holy Trinity United Church and also the Emotional Healing Classes through Learning in Retirement in Elliot Lake, I have received requests for a book on the topic of self-discovery and personal growth.

These requests have encouraged me to get to work and expand on my earlier rough notes to create this book: Keeping it Simple.

It is my highest hope that you, the reader, will find it a useful guide as you continue your journey along the path of self-discovery and personal growth.

A review of Keeping It Simple:

It Really is Possible to Heal 14 Nov. 2013
By Mary Belanger - Published on Amazon.com
Format: Kindle Edition

This manual is very well written which is to be expected of Audrey Austin who is a wonderful psychotherapy practitioner, author, and teacher. I was introduced to Keeping it Simple in 2011. At that time I was chakra illiterate. I had no idea that seven major chakras existed.

The manuscript is put together in a very sequential manner. The reader is given a methodical overview of meditation, psychospiritual therapy, and the chakra system. The straightforward approach on the practice of opening blocked chakras enables the reader to unite mind, body, and soul.

I have recorded the positive affirmations for each chakra. It is very comforting hearing my own voice as I meditate. I have been transformed into a healthier and happier person and am very grateful for Austin who has created such a wonderful resource on chakra meditation.

It really is possible to heal. Keeping it Simple has my Five Star rating because it has changed my life for the better.

Keeping It Simple  is available in both Kindle and Paperback formats.   Check it out on any Amazon site or visit my author's page at http://www.amazon.com/author/audreyaustin

Thank you for your continued encouragement and support.  And thank you for your positive reviews.

Our best friend .....

Saturday, June 11, 2016  --

Our "Ki" is sick this evening. His stomach is very distended and he is throwing up like a white foam ....... has your pet ever had this happen to him?

I'm praying it is not bloat. Why do these things always seem to happen at hours when a vet can't be contacted? He has vomited white foam several times in the last couple of hours .....stomach swollen and tight as a drum.

I've been googling so many sites trying to gain information -- It is after 4 a.m. Ki is still vomiting white foam plus water .... he is drinking a lot of water but then vomiting ..tried taking water away but he was so desperate to drink he tried to drink out of toilet (something he has never done ever before)..... so we gave him back his water ..... thinking maybe the water is helping him to get rid of bile ......... I don't know. We are so worried about him .... waiting for daylight and the veterinarian's call.

Ki was healthy and happy. Then at 8:30 Friday evening he started vomiting a white foam .. we had no idea what was wrong. He was vomiting and in pain all night. We met the vet 7:30 Saturday morning. He gave him pain killer immediately thank God ... then he did his best to remove the gas from poor Ki's bloated stomach. Then he took an x-ray and diagnosed Ki with bloat. We don't know why or how this happened. There was a surgery available but Dr. told us there was maybe less than a 40% chance of recovery due to Ki's senior age and other factors...........he recommended and we agreed that it was time to let him go home to our Lord. Now our house feels so empty. We miss him terribly.

Our hearts are broken. He was our best friend.  We called him Mr. Barker; Sir Fartalot; My Poopie; My boy; Kiki; our "Ki". Yesterday he was fine. He was happy. At 8:30 he became very ill. This morning, Saturday, June 11th, Ki said good-bye to us, until we meet again. He has gone now to play with Dudley and Mrs. Biggles. He was a happy fellow and he was the centre of our world.  He brought joy, unconditional love acceptance, loyalty and peace into our hearts. We say good-bye for now beautiful Ki.  God blessed us by bringing you into our lives.  May God bless you, my beautiful boy.

Brian and I are very appreciative of all the kind and caring comments from our family and friends. Thank you very much. Our beautiful Ki loved relaxing and sometimes napping in The Teahouse. He loved it as much as we do. As of 8:30 a.m., June 11, 2016, The Teahouse has been officially renamed The "Ki" House in loving memory of our boy who will be always missed and always loved.   When you come to visit, choose a good weather day, and we will share a cup of tea or a cold drink in The "Ki" House. In early July, my daughter Susan, a very talented artist, will be painting a Memorial Mural on The "Ki" House wall in which Ki, Dudley, Mrs. Biggles, Sara, Sunny, and other family pets will be remembered with love. Our animals are not just pets -- they are family.

The Teahouse is now officially renamed The "Ki" House in loving memory of our Ki  2006 - June 11, 2016.

God bless our beautiful "Ki"

Jacob's Seven Letters - a short story FREE in the Kindle Store Sunday, June 12th

Jacob's Seven Letters is a Short Story by Audrey Austin. As a child Jacob suffers great losses and this is a story of one man's journey in search of promise, hope and redemption.

Jacob's mother dies ...... his father does not; yet the relationship Jacob shared with his father dies a death of a different kind.   Grandmother is there to raise the boy and when she dies too Jacob feels abandoned.  It's no surprise that he gets into some difficulties in his life.  What is surprising is that the seven letters have a life-changing impact .....  When I wrote this short story I fell in love with Jacob.  To me he is the epitome of many young men struggling to find their way through an ever-changing world.

Enjoy reading Jacob's Seven Letters this Sunday, June 12th when it is FREE in the Kindle Store.
